THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - April 2008
It was great to have a good turnout for the Information Meeting on 10 March 08. Since the meeting the Board has proceeded with a number of steps both to improve the course and in preparation of our development proposal. We have:

. Finalised the DA application for the new Maintenance Shed;

. Arranged another meeting with the Department of Lands to further reach agreement on the location of a new clubhouse and to discuss the ongoing rental/ purchase of the Crown Land;

. Arranged further meetings with the Council to discuss our proposal;

. Investigating further the regulations introduced late December by the Department of Gaming and Racing relating to the conduct of business by clubs;

. Continue to hold discussions with developers;

. Prioritise the course improvement program which obviously will depend on the availability of funds.
The Board will keep the members informed and give plenty of notice of our next meeting date.

We are making changes to the Gaming room to improve the appearance of the club for members and visitors.

You no doubt have heard of the attack on Dan, our trainee pro, and would be aware the police have taken prompt action. T his is an unfortunate reminder that members should be cautious when dealing with strangers on the course.  The Club under certain circumstances has the right to permanently bar persons from the course and the clubhouse.  We will invoke this right when the Board believes it to be applicable.

Our functions have been strong and have helped significantly in offsetting the loss of play due to rain in the early part of this quarter.

Wishing you continued good golf and fun in the Club to all including social members and visitors.

John McFadden

President

Early Moaners

The Start of Something Big - 50 Years of Early Moaners

The Early Moaners again enjoyed another terrific night of great food and fabulous entertainment at TLGC for their presentation night and dinner dance on February 9th with almost 120 patrons in attendance. This also signalled the start of a year long celebration for 50 years of Early Moaners which must rank as one of the most amazing long term sub clubs at a golf club anywhere in Australia or for the world for that matter. A little trivia quiz for members was the start of the night and nobody got all the questions correct. It was great to see one of the original Early Moaners at the night in Don Gregory accompanied by his wife.

Presentations were handed out to the most consistent golfers, those who attend the most regularly, knockout competition winners and the winners of the special days that Early Moaners have throughout the year.  Some of the speeches were short and sweet but without any doubt the best of the night came from Michael Burke explaining how his playing partners had assisted him in developing into that golfer that he now is. When he joined the group he was off a handicap of 4 but now he is out to 9 and this assisted him in winning the Player of players for A grade. The way he is going he believes next year he will be able to win the B grade Player of players.

There was also a special presentation given to the President of the Early Moaners for his performance during the club championships last year when he   managed to have 23 shots on the 3rd hole.  A delightfully detailed t-shirt showing all the shots was presented by Bruce Wilson to the roar of the crowd.

The Early Moaners will have another big day on their corporate day in May and follow up on Grand Final day with a celebration of 100 years of rugby league, 20 years of football day and 50 years of Early Moaners, all at the one time!

I must again thank the staff of TLGC with special thanks to Sharyn Kennedy for the work she put in to make the night such a success.

Two Share Pro Am Crown

Anthony Summers and David L. Partridge shot 3-under-par 68s to split the winner's cheque at the Central Coast Express Advocate & Coca-Cola $10,000 Pro Am, held Friday at Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club.

Vicki Tutt was the best-placed female competitor with a 2-over-par 73. Martin Dive, Greg Green and Edward Stedman shared third-place with 1-under-par 70s.

Stunning Finish to Amateur Event

TLGC member Stewart Creswick produced a stunning finish to overtake some of the state's best golfers and win the Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club Open Amateur individual stroke event held Saturday, 8 September.

In a spectacular inward nine, Stewart eagled the par 5 15th, then after a solid par on the 16th carded consecutive birdies on the 17th & 18th holes to post 1-under 69 and claim the coveted title from 2006 TLGC Junior Champion Dimi Papadatos who finished on 72, with Danny An of Strathfield Golf Club one stroke further back.

Stewart's outward nine had plenty of highlights as well, among them a hole-in-one at the temporary 6th hole when his approach to the 165-metre par 3 was never in doubt.

Long-time TLGC member Ron Ayton also finished well taking out the overall nett title with 71.

Woodward & Wehrle Claim Title

Six-time club champion Brett Woodward (+1) and fellow A Grader Rodney Wehrle (4) proved too strong a combination against a top field in this year's Foursomes Championship, held Sunday 26 August at Tuggerah Lakes.

Woodward and Wehrle carded 4-under-par 138 to pocket the A Grade winner's cheque and trophy with Ron Ayton and Greg Nicholas teaming well together for second. A Grade nett winners were the team of Andrew Arkins and Jason Henry, with Craig Chilvers and Jack Danswan second.

David Allomes and Jamie Armstrong won B Grade, with Michael Duggan and Anthony Duggan winning the nett trophy. Francis Gore and Hilton Cope claimed the C Grade scratch trophy, with Garry Walsh and Peter Costello (no, not that P Costello) taking out the C Grade nett title.

Junior is Top Gun

Sean Cameron overcame a top-class field of TLGC members to claim this year's Top Gun Shootout, held Sunday 4 February.

Sean, who plays off an 11 handicap, showed nerves of steel as his opponents, including defending champion and two-time winner Ron Ayton, fell while his game went from strength to strength. Sean stormed home with birdies on 15 & 16, and a par on 17.

Jamie Power said at the start of the shootout that he would be walking up the 18th, finished second.
