THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - May 2008

We are making good progress with the steps necessary to present the final development proposal to all members probably August/September.

The Board has:

1. Met with the Department of Lands at the Club and explained our needs. The Department is in full agreement with our thoughts and was given our business plan which supports the need for a new Clubhouse. They will respond over the next few weeks. They also confirmed the Government of today would not contemplate sale of the Crown Land. The Lease period is unchanged.

2. The Department of Gaming and Racing regulations regarding the necessary steps to be taken have been cleared by our legal advisors.

3. We have a further meeting with Wyong Shire Council on 12 May to discuss the alternatives available and financial viability.
The preferred developer is presenting the Board with his offer based on the alternatives we are considering. The alternatives revolve around the number of serviced apartments versus the privately owned apartments plus the various heights that can be incorporated in the plan. As stated at our information meeting the higher the building the less ground area is used which can allow more garden area.

The benefits to members both now and in the future are enormous and the members supporting progress are requested to be ready to support the Board at the meeting when it is called seeking the required approval.

GOLF SHOP

It is pleasing to report the relatively new golf shop under the club's ownership has survived the honeymoon well. Jason is confident that it will continue to grow. Please remember this is your shop so spread the word to non members letting them know of the extended product range and other golfing services now available. Nothing beats good words when advertising a retail outlet!

Finally, after some really wet weather which virtually cost us a week of golf it was amazing how quickly the course bounced back. This is mainly due to the high quality upkeep Andrew and his staff have been able to maintain during the summer months.

Wishing you all well, I will be away until 15 July but am confident that Craig has settled in tremendously well as General Manager and that he will keep the ship on course.

John McFadden
President

SUBSCRIPTION RATES

At a recent meeting, as part of the clubs annual budgeting process, the Board considered subscription rates for the year ahead. As per many businesses in this country and abroad the price of oil and its subsequent effect on inflation has had an impact on our costs. To that end the Board has passed a motion to increase subscriptions for the main playing categories by 5%.

GAMING LOUNGE IMPROVEMENTS

As you may be aware we are currently undertaking some minor changes to our gaming lounge to improve the facilities for our members and visitors. Over the past several months the room has been painted, the floor layout of machines has changed, we have purchase new games, replaced the stools and we are creating an outdoor smoking area off the gaming lounge, this area will accommodate 3 gaming machines. Thank you to Scott Walter who has coordinated the project. We hope this hasn’t caused too much inconvenience to our members but are sure our smoking clientele will appreciate the changes.

Two Share 07 Pro Am Crown

Anthony Summers and David L. Partridge shot 3-under-par 68s to split the winner's cheque at the Central Coast Express Advocate & Coca-Cola $10,000 Pro Am, held Friday at Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club.

Vicki Tutt was the best-placed female competitor with a 2-over-par 73. Martin Dive, Greg Green and Edward Stedman shared third-place with 1-under-par 70s.

Open Amateur Stunner

TLGC member Stewart Creswick produced a stunning finish to overtake some of the state's best golfers and win the Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club Open Amateur individual stroke event held Saturday, 8 September, 2007.

In a spectacular inward nine, Stewart eagled the par 5 15th, then after a solid par on the 16th carded consecutive birdies on the 17th & 18th holes to post 1-under 69 and claim the coveted title from 2006 TLGC Junior Champion Dimi Papadatos who finished on 72, with Danny An of Strathfield Golf Club one stroke further back.

Stewart's outward nine had plenty of highlights as well, among them a hole-in-one at the temporary 6th hole when his approach to the 165-metre par 3 was never in doubt.

Long-time TLGC member Ron Ayton also finished well taking out the overall nett title with 71.

Woodward & Wehrle Triumph

Six-time club champion Brett Woodward (+1) and fellow A Grader Rodney Wehrle (4) proved too strong a combination against a top field in this year's Foursomes Championship, held Sunday 26 August, 2007 at Tuggerah Lakes.

Woodward and Wehrle carded 4-under-par 138 to pocket the A Grade winner's cheque and trophy with Ron Ayton and Greg Nicholas teaming well together for second. A Grade nett winners were the team of Andrew Arkins and Jason Henry, with Craig Chilvers and Jack Danswan second.

David Allomes and Jamie Armstrong won B Grade, with Michael Duggan and Anthony Duggan winning the nett trophy. Francis Gore and Hilton Cope claimed the C Grade scratch trophy, with Garry Walsh and Peter Costello (no, not that P Costello) taking out the C Grade nett title.

Top Gun Winner 07

Sean Cameron overcame a top-class field of TLGC members to claim this year's Top Gun Shootout, held Sunday 4 February, 2007.

Sean, who plays off an 11 handicap, showed nerves of steel as his opponents, including defending champion and two-time winner Ron Ayton, fell while his game went from strength to strength. Sean stormed home with birdies on 15 & 16, and a par on 17.

Jamie Power said at the start of the shootout that he would be walking up the 18th, finished second.
