THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - September 2009

We have finished the year strongly with a good profit of $170K. Well done to all staff as it was not an easy year in both keeping ahead of the competition and in continuing to make changes. Some changes such as the bottom bar closure in the early part of the day and the introduction of the course cart were met with mixed reception but as the Board said at the time it was subject to review and still is being monitored closely.

Our membership renewals were strong and new members are still joining. We will most likely close membership again by 1 November. The social membership renewals ie non golfers, have been very strong and have helped to contribute to our cash position. More will be mentioned in the Annual Report and at the AGM.

Nomination for the Board

Nominations are currently open for Directors of the Board. As required under our Constitution, this year myself (John McFadden), Allan Arkins and Bruce Cummins must stand down and all three have announced they will restand. The term for these positions will be 3 years.

The Captain (Warren Anderson) has announced that he will be standing down at the AGM and that position becomes vacant and must be voted on by the members. The term of this newly elected person is 1 year as that was the period left in Warren's term of office. The position will be reelected at the 2011 AGM for 3 years.

Nominations forms are available from the office for these 4 positions and nominations close at 5pm on Friday 11 September 2009.

I shall thank Warren formally at the AGM for the years of service he has put into the office of Captain and as our representative on the District Board.

Regards to all.

John McFadden
President

3rd Tee
The whole tee is planned to be in use by Saturday 5th September.

4th green
Currently the bunkers are being reconstructed to conform to the TLGC bunker policy. New irrigation will be installed on Monday 24th August which will help with this area. The surround will then be re-turfed with Windsor Green Couch.

5th hole
The environmental impact and effects statements have been completed and we are currently receiving quotations for the earth works associated with lengthening the hole 110 metres.

6th hole
The greenside bunkers will be reconstructed due to the unstable sand profile. This will commence following the completion of the 4th green works.

7th hole
The removal of the species Melaleuca Armillaris was due to the Arborist report which revealed that these trees were a significant risk because of falling limbs. This area will be rejuvenated with native vegetation over the coming months.

Regards
Andrew Banning
Course Superintendent

Schooling for Rulings

Q: If a player “tops” their ball which drives it straight downwards and becomes buried in the ground, can free relief be given?

A: No. To claim free relief from the “plugged ball” rule, the ball must have been airborne prior to becoming plugged.

Two Share 07 Pro Am Crown

Anthony Summers and David L. Partridge shot 3-under-par 68s to split the winner's cheque at the Central Coast Express Advocate & Coca-Cola $10,000 Pro Am, held Friday at Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club.

Vicki Tutt was the best-placed female competitor with a 2-over-par 73. Martin Dive, Greg Green and Edward Stedman shared third-place with 1-under-par 70s.

Open Amateur Stunner

TLGC member Stewart Creswick produced a stunning finish to overtake some of the state's best golfers and win the Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club Open Amateur individual stroke event held Saturday, 8 September, 2007.

In a spectacular inward nine, Stewart eagled the par 5 15th, then after a solid par on the 16th carded consecutive birdies on the 17th & 18th holes to post 1-under 69 and claim the coveted title from 2006 TLGC Junior Champion Dimi Papadatos who finished on 72, with Danny An of Strathfield Golf Club one stroke further back.

Stewart's outward nine had plenty of highlights as well, among them a hole-in-one at the temporary 6th hole when his approach to the 165-metre par 3 was never in doubt.

Long-time TLGC member Ron Ayton also finished well taking out the overall nett title with 71.

Woodward & Wehrle Triumph

Six-time club champion Brett Woodward (+1) and fellow A Grader Rodney Wehrle (4) proved too strong a combination against a top field in this year's Foursomes Championship, held Sunday 26 August, 2007 at Tuggerah Lakes.

Woodward and Wehrle carded 4-under-par 138 to pocket the A Grade winner's cheque and trophy with Ron Ayton and Greg Nicholas teaming well together for second. A Grade nett winners were the team of Andrew Arkins and Jason Henry, with Craig Chilvers and Jack Danswan second.

David Allomes and Jamie Armstrong won B Grade, with Michael Duggan and Anthony Duggan winning the nett trophy. Francis Gore and Hilton Cope claimed the C Grade scratch trophy, with Garry Walsh and Peter Costello (no, not that P Costello) taking out the C Grade nett title.

Top Gun Winner 07

Sean Cameron overcame a top-class field of TLGC members to claim this year's Top Gun Shootout, held Sunday 4 February, 2007.

Sean, who plays off an 11 handicap, showed nerves of steel as his opponents, including defending champion and two-time winner Ron Ayton, fell while his game went from strength to strength. Sean stormed home with birdies on 15 & 16, and a par on 17.

Jamie Power said at the start of the shootout that he would be walking up the 18th, finished second.
